Since stepping into my role as an #IAMRemarkable facilitator in May 2024 and as a proud Womens Utilities Network (WUN) advocate for the past four years I’ve had the privilege of delivering workshops to more than 100 participants.

What started as a new opportunity quickly became something far more meaningful: a powerful movement of women and allies learning to own their achievements, overcome self-doubt, and speak confidently about the impact they make every day.

And if there’s one key lesson I’ve learned, it’s this:

We don’t struggle because we lack achievements.
We struggle because we’ve been conditioned not to talk about them.

What I’ve Learned from 100+ Participants

1. Confidence isn’t the starting point it’s the outcome

Many participants arrive uncomfortable with the idea of “self-promotion.” By the end, they realise this isn’t about ego – it’s about visibility, equity, and creating opportunity.

2. Imposter syndrome is far more common than we admit

From early-career professionals to senior leaders, that nagging voice of “I’m not good enough” shows up everywhere. The workshop creates a rare space where people realise they’re not alone and that shared understanding is incredibly powerful.

3. We consistently undervalue ourselves

Ask someone to list their achievements and hesitation usually follows. But when peers reflect back what they’ve heard, something shifts. People begin to see themselves and their value through a new lens.

4. Saying it out loud changes everything

The phrase “I am remarkable because…” may feel uncomfortable at first but it’s transformative. It reframes how we think about ourselves, how we speak about our work, and how we show up professionally.

5. Community accelerates growth

There’s something uniquely powerful about experiencing this workshop together. The shared vulnerability, encouragement, and support create momentum that continues long after the session ends.

Why These Workshops Matter—Especially in Utilities

The utilities sector continues to face a diversity gap, with women underrepresented across the workforce and in leadership roles. Initiatives like WUN  exist to change that by building confidence, strengthening networks, and creating opportunities for women to thrive.
