WUN (Womens Utilities Network) was started to give women the skills and confidence they need to build lasting, fulfilling careers in the utility sector. Founded by a group of women who have themselves built successful careers in both energy and water, WUN seeks to help other women to build the right networks, access the right resources and take control of their own work lives at whichever stage of their career they are at.

WUN is open to anyone working in the utilities space – from customer services, operational activities, metering and everything in between. The purpose is to create a network of support to help women develop their skills and career within the sector.

At WUN, we are passionate about building a community of women, allies and organisations who can connect, support, develop and encourage one another.

Advocates are pro-bono roles that work as a team to help support awareness and impact of WUN . They actively promote WUN through their day to day roles and through formally organised opportunities, including events, networks and partner engagement

We welcome applications from any sector of the utilities industry.

During their term, advocates are expected to actively contribute to WUN activity, including but not limited to:

• Attending advocate meetings
• Supporting events and programmes
• Creating content (e.g. blogs, podcasts)
• Engaging with members and partners

With a minimum expectation of:

• One blog or podcast contribution per year (or equivalent)
• Attendance at one WUN event per year
• Consideration of #IamRemarkable facilitator training
• ~70% attendance at advocate meetings
• PRM for at least one WUN standard partner

• Be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the sector
• Ability to produce informative and accurate industry pieces in the form of podcasts, vlogs and blogs
• Strong influencing skills
• A passion for driving the mission and values of WUN in the utilities community
• Bring a skillset or knowledge base to the network i.e. such as industry knowledge, social media etc

As this role is voluntary, advocates should be prepared to give 4-5 hours a month as a minimum, but there are no firm expectation on commitment or a time limit.

All advocates commit to:

• Support membership growth through PRM activity, event engagement and internal advocacy within their organisation
• Help identify and build future partnership opportunities through networks, relationships and events
• Be willing to sign up as a mentor on the WUN mentoring platform
• Input into and influence WUN strategy, bringing insight from across the sector
• Actively contribute to strengthening WUN’s brand visibility and reach
• clear and developed personal “why” aligned to WUN’s mission
• A commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive and engaging advocate community, where individuals can contribute at their own pace
• A reasonable and fair commitment to attending events and activities
• A collaborative mindset, contributing to a positive and high-performing advocate group
• Depending on interest, skills and capacity, advocates may:
• Own or support delivery of a strategic priority area
• Contribute to specific initiatives aligned to WUN’s strategy

Each advocate serves an initial term of three years. If an advocate is inactive over a sustained period (outside of agreed leave), they may be asked to step down to allow new advocates to join and take advantage of the opportunity.
