Emily Timmins
Emily is a skilled and experienced Operations Director with a passion for people, customers and the environment. She became Director of Water Recycling at Anglian Water in July 2022, with over 30 years of experience of working in the water industry and has spent most of her career leading teams to drive performance outcomes.
She joined Anglian Water from Severn Trent after starting her career as a frontline operator on a sewage treatment works where she fell in love with the industry, fundamentally because it was the work was so purposeful delivering an essential service to the community.
Her passion is getting the best out of her teams – being clear about priorities and continuous improvement, encouraging people to be curious and courageous and to speak up if they need help. In addition, using insight to drive performance is part of the challenge to ensure that Anglian Water gets it right for its customers and does no harm to the environment. And this can’t be done in isolation. A great believer in collaborating throughout Anglian Water and across industry, Emily advocates partnership working, sharing ideas, best practice and commons goals.
Emily has a long-term partner and two children. Outside work she can be found on the sidelines of her son’s football team and enjoys long walks around the Northamptonshire countryside.
“I’m excited and privileged to be selected to join the Womens Utility Network board, and to help drive the agenda alongside an incredible group of women. I was drawn to WUN because it’s a powerful force for connection, growth, and change — uniquely focused on empowering women in an industry that’s transforming fast but still has work to do in truly reflecting the diversity of talent it holds.”
What do you love about the industry?
“It’s the people who care incredibly about what we do and why we do it – pride and talent is my biggest inspiration for getting out of bed. Secondly are the fundamentals of why we exist – it’s a life-giving service providing safe clean drinking water and sewerage services to our communities – this stuff matters.”
