Career

I am currently the Operations Manager at Yorkshire Gas and Power, a fast-growing commercial gas and electricity supplier. I manage all things operationally within the business that are not sales or finance, ensuring that our high standards are met and that our customers are happy!

Whilst working at Yorkshire Gas and Power, I have progressed from Energy Specialist, to Operations Team Leader and then to Operations Manager within 3 years.  In that time, I have recruited, trained and developed the whole operations team and the number of the people in the company has increased 5-fold. Before working at YGP, I worked at an energy consultancy as a pricing analyst for over 3 years which taught me a lot about the industry from both a supplier’s and customer’s point of view.

Why I Became a Mentor

I would like to empower other women to believe that they are capable of achieving high and being the best version of themselves. It is important as women that we support each other and work together, not against each other. I am aware that women, more so than men, underestimate and under-sell themselves (as I have done so myself before) and we need to try and change that. I’m passionate about women’s equal rights and I am always fighting to ensure that I am present where decisions are being made and pushing my team forward to succeed.

As I progressed into senior management, I found myself looking for guidance and advice to ensure I was making the right decision. I would have loved to have had a female mentor, to speak to a woman who had walked a similar path, faced similar difficulties and shared experiences. I am hoping I can be that person to the mentees at any stage of their career, looking for personal and professional guidance.

I would hope that as an ambitious young woman, the mentees would find me relatable, approachable and understanding. It’s all about the people for me, I want to share what I know and see people grow!
