Deborah Hood

Career

Senior Management Consultant specialising in asset management in the water industry. A water industry professional with 20+ years’ experience in operations, asset management, and regulatory change projects. My projects and roles have focussed on client and contractor perspectives providing an holistic view on multiple areas. Having delivered projects to operatives on the ground for different ways of working or implementing new technology to defining suite of KPIs for contract management.

I have been a member on a number of industry wide projects such as Wrc reducing blockages and on the national Sewer CCTV group in previous years. The size of projects I have worked on span from small two month projects to large projects over £20m. With experience in streetworks, maintenance programmes, flushing programmes and predictive modelling techniques, sewer flooding, blockages and CCTV standards.

I have achieved the following qualifications all whilst working full time; Msc Project Management, MBA, Prince2, Lean six sigma green belt.

Why I Became a Mentor

In my whole career I have benefited from having a mentor to take me through its stages. My mentors have been managers in other functions and even a CEO. With the world of industry changing in terms of skills, diversity and technology our careers are much more fluid. I have learnt some tough lessons along the way and would love to pass on wisdom and skills to others in their career. With mentoring also comes some reverse mentoring which is that you can often also learn something from a mentee and I would see this as a two-way opportunity.

Having previously worked and mentored apprentices and graduates early on in their career it has been great to see people grow and develop.
