Emma Ford

Emma is a passionate, highly motivated and driven leader, with 18 years’ experience in the utilities sector. Emma’s roles have ranged from senior developer to construction director to now, vice president head of generation and most importantly roles as part of the ‘front line’ – which is key to creating a pipeline for women in utilities across all levels in the organisation.

Emma’s ethos is people are the first and most important asset. Emma’s tenacious passion for people sees her mentor in the utilities sector. She also spearheaded and continues to sponsor a women’s networking group at Ørsted, aimed at increasing female representation and fostering women’s career growth in a traditionally male dominated industry.

Within a year at Ørsted, Emma has achieved results of a 170% increase in team diversity raising the team’s stats from 10% to 27% in just 12 months, demonstrating her commitment to creating inclusive environments that attract diverse talent.

Emma’s expertise will help support creating a clear WUN strategy and how we can measure success, alongside understanding the challenges experienced by the front line utilities sector workforce.

When Emma’s not managing large teams in the offshore wind industry, she’s spending time with her little boy and husband, enjoying her garden and clearing her head running with a podcast.

“What an honour it is to be on the board for WUN. I am looking forward to bringing my experience, strategic vision, and passion for empowering women into roles, helping to build a strong, diverse community capable of driving change across the industry. I thrive on working on a clear strategy to help measure success and increase inclusion and diversity.

People are always our biggest asset, and my front line experience is key in creating a pipeline for women across all levels of the industry.”

What do you love about the industry?

The people. We wouldn’t be able to achieve such amazing projects without the people and their expertise. I feel proud to tell my son that I’m helping create a world that runs on green energy, and he gets to tell people that his Mummy keeps the turbines spinning and the lights on.
