“I’m hoping to utilise my passion for energy and leadership to support WUN in their aims to improve and grow career opportunities for women in utilities. I hope to be able to inspire other young women forge successful careers in a traditionally male dominated industry, and show that anything can be achieved if you surround yourself by positive and inspirational people. I’m keen to demonstrate how you don’t have to move to a big city to have a rewarding and challenging career, nor does every role in utilities require an engineering or technical degree. I’m looking forward to working with the highly capable team of fellow Advocates and the Board to really keeping pushing WUN forward.”

Energy is my passion, and it is a career I’ve been growing into since university. My first experience of electricity and gas was through a major chemicals manufacturer and helping them improve their energy usage and reduce their carbon footprint.

It gave me a taste of energy from the consumer side, and how vital electricity and gas are to everything in the world. I’ve always been keen to work in customer facing roles, helping businesses make the right decisions.

After university I spent 6 years working at Cornwall Energy (now Cornwall Insight) in a variety of roles, from content writer for Energy Spectrum to providing the monthly regulatory updates for customers.

I chose to move to Indigo Swan in 2015 so I could have a more direct influence over customers and their energy decisions. Indigo Swan is an energy brokerage and consultancy based in the heart of Norwich. Our values shine through everything we do and provide a great insight into how we build trust, not only with our customers and the suppliers we work with, but with each other. These values are: Be Curious; Embrace Individuality; Exceed Expectations; and Success Through Trust.

My time at Indigo Swan saw me start as an account manager, transitioning through coaching roles to become Head of Client Relationships before my recent promotion to Commercial Director in July 2022. At the end of 2022 myself and 3 fellow Directors completed a Management Buy-Out from the founder, and have been successfully growing our business since. We have a 76% female workforce, and a 50:50 female to male split at Board/ Ownership level. Respect and excellent communication allows us to be successful.

Alongside energy, I’m passionate about leadership and helping people achieve more than they thought would be possible. Their successes are my successes. Considerable self-reflection and improvement goes into people leadership to get the best from team members, and in 2023 I was fortunate to be awarded the Investors In People Leader of the Year.
