Cathy McClay

Location: Warwick

Status: Accepting Mentees

Career

I was an academic in electrical engineering until my early 30s then successful transitioned into the energy industry.

I spent 15 years running modelling and analysis teams for a number of energy companies focused on supporting commercial decision making for both trading and risk management and investment decisions.

I worked in National Grid System Operator for 4 years as head of commercial and then head of future markets where I opened the balancing services markets to new participants.

I am now director of strategy, policy and regulation for Sembcorp Energy UK
I am a visiting professor at Imperial College and a non-exec director of 2 companies

Why I Became a Mentor

I have mentored in the past and enjoy providing support to people in their careers. I particularly enjoy mentoring more technical people moving into management as there can be a prejudice that ‘geeks can’t do management’ which hopefully I have shown is not the case.
